'Don't split Kilcullen vote'

Re comments by Orla O'Neill, I wonder if I am missing something? writes Dave Prendergast. Is Billy Hillis not our local candidate?

Surely he should be supported rather than seeking another candidate, which would then split the Kilcullen vote and thereby guarantee that Kilcullen would not have a councillor.

  1. Dave, perhaps he is for some people, but I haven't actually seen him since he lost his seat in 2009. Since that time, I've been involved with the Playground, Tidy Towns, a Community Survey and the Community Childcare Centre. He was not involved with any of those things. I'm looking for people currently involved in community activities and issues. In one of the first Election Watch articles I said he was someone known to longer-time residents in Kilcullen but I have asked some of the newer people and they've never heard of him. Population growth between 2002 and 2011 has been over 50% in Kilcullen so the 'new residents' demographic is crucial. Also, since I have started to write that Election Watch, I haven't heard any reports of sightings of Billy around Kilcullen, apart from the launch of candidates. Am I correct in thinking NO election candidate had their launch in Kilcullen so far? Rob Power and James Lawless of Fianna Fáil are the only two visible candidates at the moment. Perhaps you could encourage Billy to engage in the same way they have if you think he should be considered the local candidate.
